Common Cable Sheath Repair Method

The cable sheath is an important part of the cable. As the outermost layer of the cable, it mainly protects the cable from damage by the external environment. According to different materials, cable sheaths can be divided into many types. Such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sheath, polyethylene (PE) sheath, polyurethane (PUR) sheath, etc. When the cable sheath damaged, how should we repair it ourselves? What are the common cable sheath repair method?

1.When the Cable Sheath damaged in a Small Area

When there are small-scale damages such as breakdown points, holes, and collapse pits, the repair method is as follows.

Use a knife to trim the defects and cut them into plastic blocks of the same size with a slope shape of 45° angle and place them on the repair area. Use pliers or screwdrivers to fix it, and then use a hot air speed welding gun to weld it continuously. Compact, press and flatten it with copper sheets. When welding plastics, pay attention to the hot air temperature of the welding gun not being too high to avoid scorching the plastic at the repair site. The repaired defects tested by the spark machine. If they are not worn, they qualified. Use a knife to cut the defective part of the plastic layer into a slope shape of 45° fish. After fixing the plastic blocks or strips with the same shape, color and thickness with pliers or screwdrivers, connect them with a hot air speed welding gun. Then use copper sheets to compact, press and flatten them. After the spark machine test, they qualified if they not penetrated. Scrape the plastic defects with a knife, and fill the concave parts with the same plastic strips under the action of the hot air plastic welding gun. Then use copper sheets to flatten, press and compact the defect repaired parts. After the spark machine test, they qualified if they not penetrated.

2.When the Cable Sheath has a Large Range of damage

The repair method for large-scale damage such as general large joints is as follows:

Use a knife to cut the two sides of the broken glue into a slope shape with a 45° angle on the plastic layer along the circumference. Take a clean plastic tube with the same color and thickness. And the same length and outer diameter as the broken glue. Cut the openings at a 45° angle to each other along the axis on one side of the tube and put them on the broken glue. Tighten them with thin copper wire at equal distances, and then use the same plastic strips to weld them under the hot air plastic welding gun. Then use copper sheets to compact, tighten and flatten. It is qualified if it does not break down after the spark machine test.

During the process, it temporarily stopped due to other reasons. The sheath broken and can connected continuously. The method is to cut the plastic sheath into a circular slope with a 45° angle and retreat to the machine head. Insert it into the core mouth for 30mm long, and then run the glue. After running the glue, the crew members cooperate with each other. When driving, connect the plastic layer by hand, and then shape and repair it.

For cable sheaths with a longer length from one end, most of the sheaths of the other broken end are good. The cable length fixed, and the repair of large joints in the process can also used.
