Compact 1×64 PLC Splitter: Core Component for FTTH Optical Distribution Networks
Compact 1×64 PLC Splitters are key passive components in Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Optical Distribution Networks (ODN), utilizing planar lightwave circuit technology to achieve uniform distribution of a single optical signal into 64 channels. This category of high-split-ratio splitters maintains excellent optical performance while optimizing size, becoming an important technological enabler for the evolution of modern broadband access networks towards higher density and lower cost.
Regarding technical parameters, this splitter demonstrates three performance advantages: First, based on silica substrate planar lightwave circuit technology, it achieves channel uniformity deviation of less than 1.5dB at a 1:64 splitting ratio, with a typical insertion loss of 14.5±0.5dB. Second, employing novel packaging technology reduces device dimensions to 70×9×4mm, a 40% volume reduction compared to traditional packaging, meeting installation requirements for high-density optical distribution frames (ODFs). Third, the operating wavelength covers the full spectrum from 1260-1650nm, supporting coexistence of multiple standards including GPON, XG-PON, and 10G EPON, complying with GR-1209-CORE and GR-1221-CORE standards.

This type of PLC optical splitter is primarily used at secondary splitting nodes in FTTH networks, particularly suitable for optical distribution in high-user-density scenarios like high-rise residential buildings and commercial complexes. In actual deployments, its operating temperature range reaches -40°C to +85°C, maintaining stable performance in 85% humidity environments with IP68 protection rating. Compared to traditional fused biconical taper splitters, PLC technology shows significant improvements in channel uniformity and temperature stability for high-split-ratio applications, making it the standard configuration for Passive Optical Network (PON) construction.
With the comprehensive advancement of Gigabit optical network deployment, new-generation compact PLC splitters are beginning to integrate wavelength monitoring and remote identification functions. Through intelligent coordination between built-in micro-mirror arrays and Optical Line Terminals (OLTs), dynamic adjustment of splitting ratios and precise fault port localization can be achieved. In the construction wave of smart cities and the Industrial Internet, these highly integrated splitters are driving ODN networks towards intelligence and manageability.
